    Communication

We will have regular contact about your child’s academic success.  This is will be done with an app called Parentsquare.  All of Lyme Central School will be using Parentsquare as a form of communication.  Please be on the lookout for information from the school regarding this App.

As always, you can contact me by email, smcclusky@lymecsd.org or call the school at 315-649-2417.

    Meals and Snack

You may send a lunch to school with your child or they may have a school lunch. Lunch menus are listed on the cafeteria’s web page at http://www.lymecsd.org.

For the 2020-2021 school year all students will receive free breakfast and lunch.

Breakfast foods available every day include cereal, juice and milk. Fruit bars, doughnuts and other special treats are served periodically.

Primary students eat lunch early, so we'll have an optional snack time close to the end of the day. This is not a group snack, but rather a chance for your child to have something he or she brought from home for him or herself.  Please let the school nurse and I know right away if your child has any food allergies.

    Clothing

It's essential that children come to school each day in comfortable clothes that are suitable for movement.  Please do not send children to school in high heels or flip-flops, as those can cause injuries when kids are navigating stairs. Sneakers are the best daily choice.

Teachers must maintain distance from students so it's important that children are able to independently manage the clothes that they wear to school. Please make sure that your child knows how to button, zip, snap, and independently put on anything you are sending them to school in.  If they cannot snap/zipper their pants and coats, please consider sending them in simple pull-on apparel.  Please label all coats, hats, and mittens that are sent to school.

Also, in case of accidents or spills, please send in extra shirt, socks, pants, and underpants in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it.  We will store these things away in the event they are needed, and will return any unused things at the end of the year.

    School Work

We are going to structure school this year so that we are ready in the event of a sudden closure.

Children will do most of their work this year online.  Students will take their Chromebooks home every night so they may continue school online if there's an unexpected closure.  Please keep the charging cord at home; be sure that the Chromebook is plugged in each night so it's charged and ready for the following day.

    School Supplies

This year, no school supplies will be shared, so each family is responsible for providing their own child’s materials.  Please send your child with the following on the first day of school:

    • 2 boxes of sharpened pencils
    • 1” 3 ring binder
    • Scissors (last years will do)
    • A box of Crayons
    • One package of glue sticks
    • One package of black expo markers
    • 1 box of cap erasers
    • Crayon box big enough to hold the supplies above
    •          A personal bottle of hand sanitizer (not to be shared)
    • Headphones (not ear buds) for the computer (please put them in a zip-lock bag labeled with your child’s name)
    • An extra set of clothes labeled in a bag- socks, underwear, shirt and pants (these will remain in the room for the year in case of any spills or other accidents)
    •         Every day the children should bring their Chromebook back to school fully charged

Please note that some of the supplies may need to be replenished mid-year!

In addition to school supplies, your son or daughter will need:

    • A backpack that is carried on the back (no drag-behind wheeled bags). Please write your child's name on his or her backpack.
    • A water bottle. Please write your child's name on his or her water bottle. (This will be sent home each evening to be washed out.)

    Absences or Tardy Days

Please call school and speak to the nurse or one of the secretaries by 8:00 if your child is going to be absent or tardy. If you do not notify the school that your child will be out, the nurse is required by law to contact you with a “Safe to School” phone call.

     Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays, but unfortunately this year we may not share snacks, so please do not send in cupcakes or other snacks for the class.

Thank you very much for your help in starting a successful year! I am super-excited to start the school year!

    Sincerely,

    Sarah McClusky
