As part of the “WHY LYME?” Campaign, we will be sharing photos and making video clips of students, staff, friends within the community, BOE members, coaches and alumni sharing their (short) stories, or thoughts and accolades about their experiences with the Lyme Central School District and Greater Community.

LCS Engineer Your World I Students

Miss Adrienne Teachout's Engineer Your World I (EYW) students construct and test an

Aerial Imaging Device.

Task: To work in teams to build a device that, once dropped from a designated altitude, must capture pictures/video, during descent, of a specified target. It must have controlled descent and will signal once the device has landed safely.

The students worked for several weeks to design, build, and program their aerial imaging device. They were very pleased by the successful results of their first drop. As engineering-minded students, they have already reflected on the success of the drop and have identified ways to improve their device for speed and accuracy.

There are numerous career opportunities available for graduates of the Career & Technical Education program offered at Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, including the armed forces.  That was the path taken by a recent graduate who plans on using his military service to help pay for college. 

Max Townsend is a 2018 graduate of Lyme Central School.  During his two years at BOCES, he was enrolled in the Electronic and Computer Technology program at the Bohlen Technical Center.  He has career aspirations to be in the IT field, but also wanted to find a way to help finance his future college plans.  As a result, he decided to join the United States Army several months after graduating high school.   

Max had the opportunity to relay his recent experiences to current students as part of an Army recruiting trip to Bohlen Tech. in February.  After enlisting in August, he spent several months in Basic Combat Training.  From October to January, Max went through Advanced Individual Training and will soon be stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas serving as a mechanic. 

Max says his time at BOCES helped him focus on his IT aspirations, describing it as a great experience.  He also credits his instructor, Audrey O’Shea, with helping him during his two years at BOCES.  He plans on having dual majors of IT and Mechanics when he attends college.

~ Always Nice to Hear From Former LCS Graduates ~

Below is a message that was received via email from a former LCS Graduate, it is followed by his photo and Marine Corps Career Biography  

Superintendent Morrison,

My name is John Giltz--a 1985 Lyme graduate, and currently a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. The attached includes my "travels" the past 34 years.

While I have not been back home to Chaumont in over 2 decades, I do periodically look up news Lyme/Chaumont. Therefore, I was pleased--and proud--to see the current basketball team doing so well.  Winning may be commonplace in town these days--as it was consistently in my youth--but still very nice to see.  Anyway, I also saw that my coach remains the coach--Leo Wilson.  We've lost touch, but this congratulatory note was intended for him.  Could you please have someone pass this note to him.  I'm proud of the team, and proud to say I'm "Wilson trained".   I will be tracking their games in the coming days.

Finally, as my Marine Corps career concludes soon, I extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the staff and coaches at Lyme. I know they're all different now (except Leo), but the team of Superintendent Forness, Bilkey Moore, Mr and Mrs Towne, Leo Wilson, Bob and Ruth Uhlig, Susan Thompson, Bob Smelski, and others had a huge impact on my life...and I remain grateful.  I'm sure your current team is doing the same.
