  • A Message from the Superintendent…

Dear LCS Staff and Community Members,

I hope this letter finds you well, and enthusiastically anticipating the upcoming holiday season with family and friends! The 2018-19 school year is well underway, and I’m pleased to share has started in a very positive and productive manner!   It’s only the beginning of December and already we have enjoyed fantastic performances from our music departments, and our art students have created some amazing work that is beautifully displayed throughout our building.  In addition our athletic teams are competing well and our PE classes have shared their athletic proficiency in a number of photos outside of our gymnasium.  Classrooms have been humming with the sounds of animated teaching and energized learning! Yes, we are off to a great start!

On behalf of the LCS Board of Education, Administration and Staff, it is my pleasure to share our desire to be the most collaborative, transparent and effective public servants we can be as we strive to meet the needs of our students and their families each and every day! I appreciate this opportunity to draw your attention to some important and we hope helpful additions to our LCS website (www.lymecsd.org).  These additions are meant to enhance communication and transparency with our stakeholders, while describing the direction of our teaching and learning efforts within the District.  (The updates can all be found under the DISTRICT tab on our homepage.) One such update is the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan.  Last year, 21 stakeholders from our District attended several work sessions in order to develop a plan of action along with creating a new mission statement for our District: “PREPARING TODAY’S STUDENTS TO BE TOMORROW’S CITIZENS”. As part of our Strategic Plan, items highlighted in YELLOW will be addressed during the 2018-19 school year, and items with RED font are 2018-19 focus areas that have been addressed/completed. Each summer our administrators and staff will work from the Strategic Plan to identify focus areas for the year ahead.  We look forward to sharing progress updates every other month during regularly scheduled Board Meetings!

Next, we have added the photos and a brief description of experience and duties for each member of our Administrative Team. Also, since there are many staff members, departments and overlapping roles within our school District, I hope you will find the Chain of Command Document helpful when you are looking for support or would like particular questions answered.  This document will serve to point you in the right direction regarding who would best be able to assist you so that your questions may be answered in the most efficient and timely manner.  Please let us know what you think!

Finally, at least for now, I’m pleased to also tell you about the reference guide we created for you, our LCS Stakeholders!  The Reference Guide of the Educational ABC’s (Acronyms; Buzz Words; and Common Vocabulary). We are confident this reference guide will assist our families and community by describing what certain educational jargon means in order to improve understanding and communication.  If there are terms that you would like to see added to our guide, please feel free to share those and we will be happy to add to this ever changing tool!

This year like every year student/staff safety remains a priority at LCS.  Some of the most significant changes we have made are in regard to visitor access in and around our facility.  We have implemented the procedures and practices that were first highly recommended by our colleagues from the New York State Police Department last school year, and since doing so have found that the vast majority of our guests are extremely respectful and even appreciative of the measures we have taken to ensure an enhanced level of security for the well-being of our children and staff.  As always, we thank you for your understanding and cooperation with utilizing the Welcome Center Entrance (A) when entering or leaving the building.

On a similar note, I would like to remind parents and caregivers that, other than during normal operating hours, students should only be in our facility, before or after school when adult supervision has been previously arranged. Due to a lack of supervision before regular hours, walkers or children being dropped off will not be permitted into the building prior to 8:00 a.m., so please keep that in mind during the cold winter months.  Also, please be mindful of weather delays as students are not permitted into the building prior to 10:00 a.m. on those days.  If you are a parent or caregiver picking up a student at the end of the day, (students other than bussers or walkers) please pick up your student(s) no later than 3:00 p.m.  at the Welcome Center (Entrance A). Again, we thank you for understanding that we have your child(ren)’s care and wellbeing at heart.

We remain grateful for the privilege of working with your children each and every day. On behalf of the entire LCS staff allow me to say how much we are looking forward to spending the rest of this school year with all of you!  Enjoy the upcoming holiday season!

    Warmest Regards,

    Cammy
