Parents’ Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security

Lyme Central School District is committed to protecting the privacy and security of each and every student’s data. Parents should be aware of the following rights they have concerning their child’s data.

5306 – Protection of Student, Teacher, and Principal Personal Information (Data Security and Privacy)

In order to conduct a successful education program, the Lyme Central School District receives, creates, stores, and transfers information about students, teachers, and principals that is protected by state and federal law. The District takes active steps to protect the confidentiality of protected information in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws. The District expects all District officers, employees, and partners to maintain the confidentiality of protected information in accordance with state and federal law and all applicable Board Policies.

This policy addresses NYS Education Department’s (the Department or SED) responsibility to adopt appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards and controls to protect and maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of its data, data systems and information technology resources.
