Transportation FAQs
LCS has video cameras on every bus in the fleet. Videos are used by the administrators to follow up on complaints received by students, parents, and bus drivers. The NYS Education Department has said that only school personnel can view the videos due to the privacy rights of the other students. However, if you have a concern, you may request that a school administrator view the video with you.
Yes, there are seatbelts on all New York State school buses, but New York does not mandate that students must wear them.
Students must ride the bus assigned to them. Changes will only occur in cases of an emergency or unavoidable situation.
No....the buses run on a very tight schedule. In addition, we have other children waiting outside, sometimes in inclement weather, for their bus. Also, a large number of students start their day at school with breakfast, morning rehearsals, extra help, etc. Therefore, it is very important that we arrive at school on time!
If the delay, closing, or early dismissal is planned, it will be listed on the school calendar and will be followed up with a ParentSquare call from the school. If we are delayed, closed, or are closing early due to weather or another emergency, please listen for announcements on the television/radio stations listed below. Remember, the weather may be fine where you are, but there could be severe impending weather in other areas. Please make a habit of listening to the radio or television as a regular part of your morning routine. When the school district announces a two-hour delay, this means the school buses will start their routes two hours late. If your bus regularly comes at 7:20, then on a two-hour delay, your bus will arrive at about 9:20, etc. If the district has a two-hour delay, A.M. BOCES will be canceled.
When the district is forced to close early, and your child needs to go to another person’s home for temporary care, you must have this information on file at the office ahead of time. In any of these situations, personal contact with each parent is impossible, so please monitor the television and radio stations. If you have any questions, please contact the main office at Lyme Central at your earliest convenience.
Each year the Transportation Department goes over the existing bus routes. Parents will be notified if changes are made via postcard sent to them in late August. Any new students added to the bus routes will be notified by the Transportation Department by phone before the start of the new school year. If you need to make changes to your child’s information, please call the Transportation Department at (315) 649-2723. Remember, bus arrival times for pick-up and drop-off are approximate and are subject to change throughout the school year.
Some students that attend school in Watertown or Indian River CSD are bused to school buildings outside of the district. (For example: BOCES Technical Center; ACES; and some Special Education Classes). If Lyme is closed for staff development day and the school outside of our district is still open, we will provide transportation to and from your student’s school as usual. If Lyme is closed due to weather conditions, no transportation will be provided.
Yes....if the child care provider is within our school district boundaries. You must make arrangements with the school and the transportation department in advance. Our goal is to be sure that every child is on the correct bus and taken to the correct location. Please, contact the office then follow up with a note so that a bus pass can be generated.
